Allie Gabriel, the Thomas J. Howatt Chair in Management in the Mitch Daniels School of Business and faculty director of Purdue University’s Center for Working Well, has added another accolade to her impressive resume. Gabriel was named a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA) in recognition of her contributions in the field of psychology.
Brian Dineen, the Frederick and Alice Leeds Professor of Management and organizational behavior and human resources department head at the Daniels School, says APA welcomed 96 new Fellows this year out of a total membership of about 172,000. Fellow status is an honor bestowed upon APA members who have shown evidence of unusual and outstanding contributions or performance in the field of psychology, and it requires that a person's work has had a national impact on the field of psychology beyond a local, state or regional level.
“Along with Allie’s other recent accolades and Center for Working Well directorship, this signifies her multi-faceted academic reach and recognizes the critical linkages her research forges between business scholarship and broader psychological scholarship,” Dineen says. “APA Fellows are at the very top of their field, and we are so proud to have her in our department here at Purdue.”
The APA recognition comes on the heels of an award from the Research Methods Division of the Academy of Management. Gabriel and her coauthors were honored with the 2025 Sage Publications/Robert McDonald Advancement of Organizational Research Methodology Award for their 2019 paper on experience sampling methods. The award recognizes methods-oriented articles and book chapters that create or improve methods for research design, data collection and data analysis. The paper, “Experience Sampling Methods: A Discussion of Critical Trends and Considerations for Scholarly Advancement,” provides actionable insights for scholars implementing experience sampling methods in their research.
Gabriel has received five early- to mid-career awards for research excellence, and her studies on women’s health have earned four more awards. She was named a Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology Fellow in 2023, and was selected by the Poets & Quants website as a “Top 50 Undergraduate Business School Professor” in 2018.
“I’m deeply honored to be recognized as an APA Fellow,” Gabriel says. “This recognition means a great deal to me, not only as a personal achievement but also as an affirmation of the interdisciplinary contributions I strive to make in bridging organizational behavior and psychology. I look forward to continuing my work here at Purdue in the Daniels School and with the Center for Working Well, especially in advancing the science of well-being and its practical application.”
Gabriel joins two other Daniels School faculty members in earning APA Fellow status. Mike Campion, the Herman C. Krannert Distinguished Professor of Business, was named an APA Fellow in 1991. Ellen Ernst Kossek, the Basil S. Turner Distinguished Professor Emerita of Management, received the honor in 2002.
