Hojun Seo is an associate professor of accounting at Purdue University’s Mitch Daniels School of Business. His research examines the intersection of financial reporting, corporate governance, and executive compensation, with a particular focus on how information flows within and across firms influence managerial behavior, market reactions, and governance outcomes.
Seo earned his PhD in accounting from Washington University in St. Louis in 2016, where his dissertation explored empirical issues in disclosure and compensation contracting. He also holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Korea University. Before joining academia, he worked in Transaction and Financial Advisory Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Seoul, South Korea. He is a Certified Public Accountant in South Korea.
Since joining Purdue in 2020, Seo has established himself as a leading scholar in empirical accounting research. His publications appear in premier journals such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, and Journal of Law and Economics. His sole-authored article “Peer Effects in Corporate Disclosure Decisions” was recognized as the most-cited paper in the Journal of Accounting and Economics between 2021 and 2024, underscoring his impact on the field. Seo’s contributions have been recognized through the Daniels School of Business Young Faculty Scholar Award (2024).
At Purdue, Seo teaches undergraduate courses in Corporate Financial Reporting and Intermediate Accounting, bringing a research-informed perspective that links theory, empirical evidence, and real-world practice.
