Vanessa Ortiz is a lecturer in the Department of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management at the Mitch Daniels School of Business.  She teaches four sections of the MGMT 33500 Strategic Business Writing Course and serves as a co-faculty advisor for the Purdue University Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). 

She is a proud double-Boilermaker and combines her educational background, industry experience and knowledge of employer expectations to bring to life course materials and lesson plans.

Vanessa graduated from the Krannert Graduate Institute's 3+2 MBA Program in 2008 and started her career in human resources.  She has over 15 years of HR experience, with the majority from generalist and manager roles within corporate and manufacturing environments in the retail, automotive and food industries.  Her areas of expertise are talent acquisition, change management, coaching, talent management, training, and process improvement.

In 2021, Vanessa returned to the Mitch Daniels School of Business as the Associate Director for Employer Engagement and Alumni Programs with the Business Career Services Office.  She partnered with alumni and employers to increase professional development and employment opportunities for students.  She also served as the Salesforce implementation lead for the office and worked closely with the Office of Business Partnerships.  Additionally, Vanessa redesigned an alumni/employer engagement course (MGMT 591 Launching Global Leaders) and launched the HR Career Connect event to support the Master of Science in Human Resource Management (MSHRM) Program.
